PS: Super photo heavy post We started the day early as we have a long journey to drive to Fremantle. So I started off driving first in the morning with our leftover dinner from the night before. The plan was actually to drive to Fremantle for lunch but as it was a Saturday, the traffic was really bad with lots of jams. Heather searched for a place or a beach nearby for us to have a break as we haven had anything to eat the whole morning and was already very tired. We ended up in a rest stop in Murray which looks relatively new and had our lunch there. After another hour drive, we finally arrived in Fremantle. Fremantle is a seaside harbour / fishing port at the mouth of the Swan River. Finding a free park was difficult in the area as its a Saturday. After entering and exiting a few carparks, we decided to just park at the carpark behind Round house as it is conveniently behind the fishing port and a short walk to the market. We agree to go to the Fremantle Prison first as we were worried it would close after we finish walking round the market. Google map brought us not only to the prison but round the prison as well, making the 10 minutes walk, a 30 minutes walk under the super hot sun. The Fremantle Prison is the oldest prison in the region, they offer different types of tour frequently through the day so there is something for everyone. We went for the " Doing Time" tour which is the basic tour most people go for. It was a pleasant surprise for us we were offered the concession price with our student ID despite it being from a different state. So bring your student IDs from where ever you are, and you might get an unexpected discount. We felt that the Fremantle prison tour was worth going, as it shows some interesting history, and how often would one experience life in prison. The tour was guided and if you have family who do not understand English, there are audio guides available in a couple of languages. " Fremantle Prison One of the main attractions in Fremantle is the Fremantle Market that is open only from Friday- Sunday every week. It was only a 3 minute walk from the entrance of Fremantle Prison. The place kind of reminds me of Bugis Street, there are many shops that sells souvenirs and accessories with many food stores and a supposedly famous ramen bar ( Dosukoi) which i passed. Its mainly a place for tourist and maybe for locals to grab a bite. I think it only took us 10-15 minutes to finish walking round the place. We chanced upon a stall that gave out free samples of tea, there was a little bit of hard selling from the staff but the tea was really refreshing after the long walk we had. They also sold takeaway cups of teas which are really photo-worthy. ( Photo from Roogenic's instagram: @roogenic) We gave in to the hard selling and bought 3 jars of tea and got 1 free, i personally love the strawberry tea and got that and a jar of the native balance for women (review of that in another post). We were starving and wanted to get a snack before we met WH, a friend studying in Perth for dinner so we settled for some crepes. " Fremantle Market It was slightly too late after walking around the market to visit the round house, and there was nothing more in the market, so we just walked around the area to kill time before meeting WH for dinner. There were many nice places for those who like taking photos, some buildings were painted in colours that make nice background. SO all we did was take lots and lots of photos haha. I was actually searching for the spot where many took their photos at on the railway track and the ferris wheel, but i wasnt able to get an address to the location. So we walked the fishing port area and the beach to wait. You would be able to see the various restaurants on the side of the beach and a railway track. ( Please take note that the track is still running, and to be careful when you are about to take a photo on the tracks, look and evaluate if its safe to stand on the tracks, though its not right 😝). Finally, when we were walking down to Cicerello's, we found the photo spot. So for those who want to know, the spot is just right opposite Cicerello. When were there, the sun was just about to set, giving us perfect lighting, the backdrops makes it a perfect spot for photos, I now understand why everyone takes a photo at this spot when they visit Perth. Both Cicerello's and Kailis were the 2 major restaurants offering similar menus in Fremantle, the war on which is better has been going on for years. WH suggest that we have dinner at Cicerello's as she prefers this over the 2, however, i felt that the fish and chips were over-rated, and oily. It just wasnt to my liking, however, finding a seat on a Saturday was not difficult, and ordering was self serviced. The food came out fast, with salt available for those that felt that the food was bland. We ended the day by checking into our AIRBNB located in Hamilton Hill. The place was conveniently located near Fremantle and was accessible with a car, about 30 minutes drive to the city. The room we rented was beautiful, and the whole place was very cozy, though we shared the house with another, it was still very well kept through out the whole stay, the host was also very nice and accommodating. Thought i will share the place with photos since it was so cozy, it really felt like home for the 3 days we stayed. There was a shared bathroom, a kitchen that was fully equipped and a lounge smartly designed above the kitchen, we had our own entrance and a lounge right in front of the room as well. PS: Super photo heavy and long post We started the day off with breakfast in Margaret River Bakery. The place was crowded and busy when we got there, making it slightly hard to find a seat. Despite that, we managed to get a seat quite quickly, the place has a nice rustic environment with sofas and wooden tables. After making our orders at the counter, we just have to sit back and relax with the number plate on the desk. We ordered a cup of hot chocolate, a cup of dirty chai, a Big Breakkie (scrambled eggs, roasted mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, bacon, and sourdough bread), a slice of banana bread, and banana pancakes. A huge amount of food but ohhhh so worth it. The dirty chai had a strong turmeric taste which might not be suitable for all, also the glass was relatively small. The banana bread was one of the best i've ever had. There is very few lots for parking within the compound but there are some on the streets around it. " Margaret River Bakery Fortunately, it was not raining but cloudy on that day. We were just going to the different recommended spots around Margaret River. We started off the journey with the shop Good Olive, which is actually just a souvenir shop, it is just right beside the bakery for those who are interested in the place. " The Good Olive There are more than 150 wineries just in the Margaret River region. We choose to go to Leeuwin Estate as I have heard that the tour in Leeuwin estate was good, but unfortunately we missed the time for it. The place was not exactly attractive to me, maybe because Im not a fan of wine, but if you are, its worth visiting as they offer wine tasting and tours. Well... at least there is some good sunlight to take some photos while waiting for heather. " Leeuwin Estate As the sky starts to get darker with clouds looming over us, we decided to wrap it in Leeuwin and take a chance with Voyagers Estate. In my opinion, Voyagers is so much more worth the trip, the place looks relatively new, with a beautiful garden and lots of spots for photo taking. It just feels like a setting of a drama, it was suitable for both adults and children as there was winery tours that fit all ages, larger field space for children to run around, and similar to all other wineries, wine tasting for the adults. Because we aren't wine drinkers, and really don't know much about wine, we were just there to take lots of photos haha. "Voyagers Estate Next we went to Fudge Factory, which was seriously not worth going unless you would like to buy some fudge. It might be because Gold Coast Mount Tamborine has awesome fudges, those in the fudge factory looked really average in comparison. We also dropped by Cow Town, Candy cow is a shop many kids would love as it has candies of all kind, similar to Singapore's candy empire, they also offer honeycrunch demonstrations at specific timings, and free samples for their in house fudges, nougats, and honeycomb. Other than that, there are a few more shops within the town and along the street to walk around if you time on hands. " Margaret River Fudge Factory " Candy Cow Shop 3/ 69 Bussell Highway (Cnr Bottrill Street), Cowaramup www.candycow.com.au " After that, we visited the famous Margaret River chocolate factory, that offers a huge variety of chocolate types. This place is famous for its free samples made available in huge bowls. I've also heard that the hot chocolate offered in the cafe were also awesome, which i did not have the chance to try. We also visited the Margaret River nuts and cereal factory which is just right beside the chocolate factory. Honestly, the place smelled like a hamster cage. Despite testers being made available, there is rarely much products to buy. When we were there, there was no one visiting the factory while the Chocolate factory was filled with visitors. " Margaret River Nuts and Cereal Factory " Margaret River Chocolate Factory Because we didnt spend alot of time in the 2 factories we wanted to visit, we had some spare time to explore the area. I was scrolling through the instagram account of my friend who lives in Perth and came upon a picture that looks like Fall in Nami Island, South Korea. Since it was in the vicinity of the factories, we decided to try our luck. Turns out the spot the photo was taken, belongs to a winery, Vesse Felix. That was one of the best decisions we made on a whim haha, the place was beautiful, giving us a moment of being in a Korean drama. The photos were taken near the entrance of the winery, we parked our car on the side of the road, on the leaves and tree brunches. " Vasse Felix Winery After all the touring, its time for tea. Cape Lavender was highly recommended by many so we decided to give it a try. We made a little booboo here as we went to the address in the Margaret River City but that shop has closed :(, so just a little note for those who want to make a trip there. The shop looked like a glasshouse from outside, and was filled with lavender products, everything was in purple. We ordered the tea set, which comes with a beverage and a scone ( comes with cream and lavender infused jam). I ordered the in -house special tea " cape lavender" with a lavender scone, and heather ordered the lavender ice cream so we could share. The tea had a strong lavender taste which was nice, the lavender scone on the other hand, though moist did not have a strong lavender smell. The jam which was the highlight was ordinary in my opinion, which was like ordinary berry jam. The ice cream on the other hand, was like a whole bottle of lavender essential oil made into ice cream, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves using essential oil, but it might be a little too strong for those who are not fans of lavender. The place also sold many lavender infused products for those who want to get some souvenirs for their loved ones. I got a bottle of essential oil as a gift for my mum. " Cape Lavender Tea House As the sun has not set, we were gonna risk it and went to Busselton Jetty again to get a good photo. It was so worth it to make the drive there, but as expected, it started to rain while we were walking back..... We paid another $4 each for admission ticket, the profits from the ticket go towards the maintenance and conservation of the jetty. The Jetty walk is about 1.84KM 1 way, making it close to a 4 km walk for us. We even spotted a rainbow through the walk. There are also nice restaurants along the beach for those who want to see the view while having dinner. " Busselton Jetty Due to the horrible dinner we had the night before, Heather put in much effort in finding us a nice place to eat. So we decided to try Chang Thai @ Margaret River though it might be a little difficult to find. That was a good decision, the food was good, in large portions and reasonably priced. The staff were also awesome, they offered to pack our left over food into 2 lunch boxes for us, which was perfect as we would have a long journey drive back the next day. We had the set dinner, which comes with rice, spring roll appetisers, cashew nut chicken, red pork curry, and a side of beef tom yum soup. I think we had our best meal in this restaurant. As it is our last night at the airbnb we booked, we took some photos with MOJO, the dog that loves humans. Mojo was such a sweetie and was very affectionate, sticking to the guest all the time, falling down his back for a rub all the time, definitely the reason we booked this air bnb.
